.escape(string) ⇒ Object

Returns a new string that escapes any characters that have special meaning in a regular expression:

s = Regexp.escape('\*?{}.')      # => "\\\\\\*\\?\\{\\}\\."

For any string s, this call returns a MatchData object:

r = Regexp.new(Regexp.escape(s)) # => /\\\\\\\*\\\?\\\{\\\}\\\./
r.match(s)                       # => #<MatchData "\\\\\\*\\?\\{\\}\\.">
